If, unbeguiled by that suspicious wraith

Called Putity, we look with favor on

   The nebulous, syncretic faith

Of Shah Jahan's first-born, unwordly son -

(Translating Hindu scriptures into Persian,

Conviced the saddhu and the sufi were

   Lost brothers squabbling for the version

Of one tremendous truth) we must refer,

As well, to that blunt, younger brother who

- Contemptuous of vapid heresy -

   Was more than eager to pursue

(By fratricide) the wraith of Purity.

Se, desiludidos por esse espectro

Chamado Pureza, olhamos favoravelmente

   A fé nebulosa, sincrética,

Do ascético filho primogénito de Shah Jahan -

(A traduzir escrituras hindus para persa,

Convencido que o saddhu e o sufi eram

   Irmãos afastados disputando a versão

De uma verdade tremenda) temos de mencionar,

Também, esse rude irmão mais novo que

- Desdenhoso de heresia insipida -

   Foi mais que determinado em alcançar

(Por fratricídio) o espectro da Pureza.
